Elon Musk Responds to Former CIA Security Expert’s Twitter Bots Conjecture: This Deal Is Awesome

According to Business Insider, Elon Musk took a dig at Twitter Inc. NYSE: TWTR responded Thursday to a security expert’s guess of spam accounts on the microblogging site.

Elon Musk shared a report in The Australian newspaper involving Dan Woods, a former Central Intelligence Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigation cyber security expert who estimated that 80% of Twitter accounts are fake.

Based on $/bot, this deal is fantastic, Musk said in his tweet. Definitely sounds like more than 5%. Jokingly said the deal is awesome on a dollar-per-bot basis. Why this matters: Twitter CEO Parag Agarwal said his company estimates more than 5% of bots were bots in the past four quarters.

Woods said both Musk and Twitter underestimated the bot issue on the Jack Dorsey-founded platform, Business Standard reported, after Australian Musk gave Twitter a second termination letter on Wednesday. In July Entrepreneur terminated a $44 billion deal after saying the platform failed to provide data on monetized daily active users.

Twitter has since sued Musk in the Delaware Court of Chancery Price Action to force a buyout: Tesla shares fell 1.3% after closing 0.75% to $275.61 in the regular session on Wednesday, the same day as Twitter. Shares of U.S. fell 1.4% in regular hours. It was up 0.4% at $38.77 and extended trading at $272.02, according to data from Benzinga Pro.
